Fall Knitting Project #1
Okay, I've made my decision! My very first knitting project of the season will be this simple, yet adorable pointy elf hat out of Joelle Hoverson's new book, More Last-Minute Knitted Gifts. I dream of going to Joelle's shop, Purl Soho, on my next trip to New York because her blog, The Purl Bee, is one of my very favorite sources of creative inspiration. I imagine that the eye candy in that place is something quite extraordinary.
Although I couldn't find the precise type of bulky merino yarn that the pattern calls for in my local yarn shop, I did pick up an amazingly soft, unprocessed Italian substitute (Tahki's "Montana").

I also picked up some bamboo double-pointed needles because we're flying back east for a wedding this weekend and TSA has been known to confiscate the metal ones. (Trust me, I learned this the hard way...) Happy knitting!
Although this knitting project was only supposed to take two hours (technically, less than two hours) to complete, it took the better part of my Chicago to Seattle flight yesterday to finish it off. It certainly isn't perfect – I dropped at least two stitches in fairly noticeable places – but it makes a nice "just because" gift for Nate. I think that I'll try to track down some of the Thick/Thin bulky merino that the pattern calls for and then make another (brighter) version for yours truly...
